From Moscow to New Delhi, Beijing to Amman — A Wave of Diplomatic Condemnation Signals Growing Isolation for Tel Aviv After Attacks on Iranian Territory

In a stark diplomatic shift, a rising chorus of international voices has condemned Israel’s recent military strikes on Iranian territory, with regional and global powers warning that such aggression risks igniting a broader conflict in an already volatile Middle East.

From the halls of the United Nations to the capitals of key U.S. allies and historical non-aligned states, statements from officials and heads of state are painting a clear picture: The world is alarmed. The Israeli attack — reportedly targeting civilian and nuclear sites — has been deemed by many as a flagrant violation of international law, Iranian sovereignty, and the UN Charter.

Jordan Joins the Chorus: “Violation of International Law”

In a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi delivered one of the region’s strongest rebukes yet of Israel’s military action. Calling the strike a “clear violation of the sovereignty of a UN member state”, Safadi emphasized the illegality of Israel’s aggression under international law and the United Nations Charter.

Jordan, a nation with longstanding diplomatic ties to Israel, rarely issues such forceful criticisms. This marks a significant shift in regional positioning and signals mounting Arab frustration with Tel Aviv’s increasingly confrontational policies.

Araghchi, in turn, thanked Jordan for its support and stated that Iran “will act with full determination” to defend its people, sovereignty, and territorial integrity — promising a decisive response to what he called a “cowardly” act of aggression.

Gulf Cooperation Council: “A Threat to Regional Stability”

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, also weighed in. In a rare unified statement, the GCC condemned the Israeli strike as a “blatant violation of international law” and a “serious threat to regional security.”

Al-Budaiwi urged the UN Security Council and global leaders to “take immediate and effective measures” to prevent further escalation. He stressed that such military actions could undo years of fragile regional diplomacy and lead to “uncontrollable outcomes.”

Iran’s Foreign Minister echoed the concern but made it clear that Tehran’s patience has limits, warning that any further aggression would trigger a “strong and decisive” military response.

Kuwait and UAE Speak Out: Sovereignty Must Be Respected

Further reinforcing regional unity, Kuwait’s Foreign Minister condemned the Israeli attacks, warning that such actions endanger the delicate balance of Middle Eastern peace and security.

The United Arab Emirates’ Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, joined the calls for de-escalation, describing the Israeli strikes as “a blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and international law.” He added that the attacks undermine regional stability and the principles of peaceful coexistence.

Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi expressed deep appreciation for the solidarity shown by Gulf nations, reiterating Iran’s right to respond to aggression and defend its citizens and strategic infrastructure.

India Expresses Sympathy, Urges De-escalation

In South Asia, India’s External Affairs Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, expressed “deep sympathy” with the Iranian people following the strikes. While stopping short of outright condemnation, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of resuming diplomatic talks and warned that continued conflict threatens global energy stability and economic recovery.

Araghchi revealed that Iran had been engaged in diplomatic consultations with Oman to prepare for a new round of indirect talks with the United States — talks that were disrupted by the Israeli assault, which killed military personnel, civilians, and academic experts.

“This was not just an attack on Iran,” Araghchi said. “It was an attack on diplomacy.”

Europe Weighs In: Italy Breaks Ranks

Europe’s response, though cautious, shows signs of divergence. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani became the first EU official to publicly denounce the Israeli attacks, calling them “unacceptable.” In a phone conversation with Araghchi, Tajani condemned the targeting of civilian and nuclear infrastructure as a “grave breach of international norms.”

He urged Israeli officials to show restraint and warned that continuing provocations could alienate key European allies. Iran, meanwhile, demanded that the European Union issue a formal condemnation, citing the region’s legal obligations under international law.

Russia and Iran Forge Stronger Alliance

Perhaps the most strategically consequential response came from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who held a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on June 14, 2025. The two leaders jointly condemned the Israeli strikes, calling them “a blatant breach of international law and a dangerous escalation.”

Putin emphasized that Israel’s actions would have “strategic consequences” and signaled Moscow’s intent to deepen its cooperation with Tehran, both diplomatically and militarily.

Their exchange suggests a strengthening of the Iran-Russia axis, particularly in the context of shared opposition to Western-aligned military interventions.

China Takes a Firm Stand at the UN

At an emergency UN Security Council session, Chinese Ambassador Fu Cong delivered a scathing critique of Israel’s actions. Describing the strikes as a “threat to international peace,” he condemned the attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities and stated that such operations were “unacceptable and deeply destabilizing.”

He reaffirmed China’s position that Iran, as a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), has every right to peaceful nuclear development — and that its rights must be protected.

“Escalation serves no one,” Fu Cong said. “It is time for the Security Council to act decisively in upholding peace.”

Russia at the UN: A Rare Defense of Iran’s Nuclear Program

Joining China, Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya took the floor to defend Iran’s nuclear activities, asserting that Iran “has conducted no dangerous activities” and remains one of the most heavily monitored nations under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Nebenzya accused “extremist groups aligned with Israeli interests” of sabotaging the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — the Iran nuclear deal — and criticized Western nations, particularly France, for failing to restrain Tel Aviv.

The Broader Implications

This wave of global condemnation suggests that Israel’s diplomatic isolation is growing, especially among non-Western states.

It also reflects a tectonic shift in geopolitical alliances, as nations like Russia, China, and India — each with their own interests in energy security and regional stability — express solidarity with Iran or urge de-escalation in increasingly forceful terms.

The United Nations Security Council now faces pressure to take formal action. However, given the entrenched positions of permanent members like the U.S., any meaningful resolution is likely to be blocked — adding further strain to global multilateral diplomacy.

The Risk Ahead: Sliding Into Regional War

Diplomatic analysts warn that the window for de-escalation is closing quickly. Iran has signaled a firm and proportional response, and Israel’s defense apparatus remains on high alert. If further retaliation occurs — especially involving Lebanon, Syria, or the Persian Gulf — the region could descend into a full-scale war with global implications.

The only viable solution, experts say, is an immediate ceasefire, UN-led investigation, and renewed multilateral talks aimed at establishing regional non-aggression pacts.

Final Thoughts

The Israeli strike on Iranian territory has become a global flashpoint — not just militarily, but diplomatically. What began as a regional rivalry now threatens to upend the delicate fabric of international law and multilateral diplomacy.

With Iran promising retaliation, and the world watching anxiously, this moment may define the trajectory of Middle East geopolitics for years to come.
