A delegation representing the office of Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani has arrived in southern Iran to oversee humanitarian efforts and reconstruction following the deadly February 28 attack on a primary school in Minab, Hormozgan Province.
Seyyed Mohammad-Javad Al-Ahmad, a member of the delegation, stated on Monday that the initiative comes in response to a fatwa issued by Ayatollah Sistani, calling for comprehensive support for the Iranian people—particularly victims affected by the ongoing US-Israeli conflict.
Delegation Arrives to Support Victims’ Families
The delegation, led by Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslimin Faqih Imani, traveled to Minab to offer condolences and provide assistance to families impacted by the attack on Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School.
Al-Ahmad described the incident as a “tragic” event, noting that the visit aims not only to console grieving families but also to ensure sustained humanitarian and institutional support for the affected community.
Plans to Rebuild ‘Smart’ Educational Facility
According to the delegation, Ayatollah Sistani has ordered the complete reconstruction of the destroyed school. The new facility will be developed as a modern, fully equipped “smart” educational institution.
The reconstruction project will be carried out under the supervision of Ayatollah Sayyed Jawad Shahrestani, the senior cleric’s representative in Iran, and implemented through the resources and coordination of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (PBUH).
Officials confirmed that the rebuilt school will incorporate advanced educational infrastructure aimed at providing a safe and technologically enhanced learning environment.
Formal Agreement Signed for Reconstruction
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the governor of Hormozgan Province and the administration of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein, formalizing cooperation on the reconstruction project.
Authorities also announced that an official ceremony marking the commencement of rebuilding efforts is scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Minab.
Background: Deadly Attack on School
The Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab was struck during the initial phase of the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran on February 28.
According to reported figures, the attack resulted in the deaths of more than 170 schoolchildren and staff, making it one of the deadliest single incidents since the conflict began.
Ongoing Humanitarian Response
The reconstruction initiative reflects a broader humanitarian response mobilized by religious and institutional bodies in the region. Ayatollah Sistani’s office has emphasized continued support for victims of the conflict, including infrastructure rebuilding, social services, and community rehabilitation.
As efforts begin to rebuild the Minab school, the initiative is being framed as both a recovery project and a symbol of resilience amid ongoing hostilities.
