Washington – ANN (ANish News Network)

US President Donald Trump has abruptly dismissed Attorney General Pam Bondi amid mounting controversy over the handling of files linked to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, intensifying political turmoil within Washington.

The White House confirmed Thursday that Bondi would be “transitioning” out of her role, with her deputy, Todd Blanche, named as her replacement.

Fallout from Epstein Files

Bondi’s removal follows widespread criticism of the Justice Department’s handling of millions of documents tied to Epstein’s sex trafficking network. Lawmakers from both major parties accused her of obstructing transparency by shielding the identities of high-profile individuals allegedly connected to the case.

Among the most vocal critics was Nancy Mace, who recently led a bipartisan push to subpoena Bondi.

“She stonewalled every effort to hold the guilty accountable,” Mace said, adding that the former attorney general had “seriously undermined” the administration.

Despite her dismissal, congressional leaders have indicated that Bondi may still be compelled to testify before oversight committees regarding her handling of the case.

Political Crisis Deepens

The Epstein scandal has rapidly evolved into a major political liability for the Trump administration, casting a shadow over both domestic governance and foreign policy.

A newly released survey conducted by Drop Site News, Zeteo, and Data for Progress found that 52% of likely American voters believe the administration’s February 28 military campaign against Iran was at least partly intended to divert attention from the Epstein controversy.

The claims have fueled criticism across political and media circles, with some commentators referring to the military campaign as “Operation Epstein Fury.”

War and Distraction Narrative

The US-Israeli military action against Iran—launched in late February—has triggered sustained retaliatory strikes by Iranian forces, significantly escalating tensions across the Middle East.

Critics argue that the timing of the conflict, coinciding with the intensification of the Epstein document revelations, has reinforced perceptions of a diversionary strategy.

Meanwhile, officials in Tehran have sought to link the scandal to broader geopolitical dynamics. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei suggested the Epstein case could have wider political implications beyond a criminal investigation.

“The entire affair may be part of a long-running and extensive project to further the political goals of certain parties,” Baghaei stated, referencing alleged international dimensions of the case.

Broader Implications

The dismissal of Bondi marks the second high-profile cabinet shakeup in recent weeks, signaling internal instability within the administration as it grapples with overlapping crises.

Analysts warn that the convergence of a domestic political scandal and an intensifying international conflict could have lasting consequences for US governance and global security.

With investigations ongoing and geopolitical tensions rising, Washington faces increasing scrutiny at home and abroad.
